We are seeking Telecommunications and Networks technicians to support and enable department's operational telecommunications systems. Previous experience in deploying, maintaining, and troubleshooting telecommunications and network systems in low-bandwidth, high-latency environments is essential.
The main duties include, but are not limited to:
Providing telecommunications support services, including advice on issues associated with data and voice communications across a network utilising radio and satellite communications technology.
Performing regular system testing, monitoring and repair of radio, satellite and networked communications equipment including antennas, radios, repeaters, radars, tracking and GPS devices, including all satellite equipment.
Managing the business-as-usual requirements for radio and satellite systems so they remain current and provide the best value for money through established change and release management processes and Capital upgrade projects.
Consulting with stakeholders, enable the development of project plans to meet the needs of remote area communications for the department and support those systems in accordance with these plans.
Participating in the development and delivery of training in the maintenance of radio, satellite and network systems to local administrators and develop and maintain system management procedures, troubleshooting articles and associated documentation.
Working as part of a team with our technical service providers to ensure they maintain system support and monitor associated service levels.
Contributing to minor and major projects that seek to achieve the sections technical, operational and strategic goals.
Knowledge and Experience in at least one of the following technical areas: Analogue radio systems with a strong understanding and practical maintenance including installation and repair of HF mobile and fixed base. VHF Repeaters/Base stations, Mobile radios and portables. Testing and repair of antennas and associated cabling/feeder systems and familiarity of masts and associated hardware. Satellite communications systems and equipment with a strong understanding and practical experience.
