Chief Officer, Aquaculture Vessel

OSM Thome are seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified Chief Officers for upcoming aquaculture vessel operations.

The Chief Officer will support the Master in the safe and efficient operation of the vessel, including bridge watchkeeping, deck operations, crew supervision, safety management and day-to-day vessel activities in support of aquaculture operations.

The role will involve working closely with the Master, deck crew, client representatives and operational teams to ensure all vessel activities are completed safely, professionally and in line with company, client and regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

  • Support the Master with safe vessel operations and navigation

  • Undertake bridge watchkeeping duties as required

  • Assist with passage planning, vessel documentation and compliance requirements

  • Supervise deck crew and support safe deck operations

  • Assist with aquaculture-related marine operations, including farm support, transfers, mooring, towing or cargo activities where required

  • Maintain a strong focus on safety, risk assessment and permit-to-work requirements

  • Support emergency response, drills and onboard training

  • Ensure vessel procedures, client requirements and company standards are followed

Minimum requirements

  • Valid Chief Officer Certificate of Competency, or appropriate qualification for the vessel class

  • Current Norwegian medical

  • Valid STCW certificates relevant to the position

  • Valid MSIC, or ability to obtain if required

  • Current Australian working rights

  • Previous marine, offshore, inshore, aquaculture or workboat experience

  • Strong leadership, communication and safety focus

Desirable experience

  • Previous aquaculture vessel experience

  • Experience with workboats, landing craft, utility vessels or inshore operations

  • Strong understanding of deck operations, cargo handling and crew supervision

  • Experience working with clients and operational stakeholders
