The Opportunity

At The Tasman, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Hobart, we are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Assistant Accountant to join our Finance team. Reporting to the Director of Finance, you will play a key role in supporting the hotel's financial operations, ensuring the accuracy of financial records, compliance with company policies, and the timely preparation of reports and reconciliations.

This role is ideal for an individual who enjoys working with numbers, has a strong eye for detail, and is eager to develop their career within a luxury hospitality environment.

Key Accountabilities

  • Assist with the preparation of daily, weekly, and monthly financial reports.

  • Reconcile bank accounts, balance sheet accounts, and general ledger

transactions.

  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions accurately and

efficiently.

  • Assist with month-end and year-end financial close processes.

  • Verify and reconcile revenue postings, cashier transactions, and hotel

operating reports.

  • Support payroll processing and payroll reconciliations as required.

  • Maintain accurate financial records and ensure compliance with Marriott

policies and accounting standards.

  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis activities.

  • Prepare journal entries and maintain supporting documentation.

  • Liaise with department leaders regarding financial enquiries and reporting

requirements.

  • Support internal and external audit processes by providing required

documentation and information.

  • Identify opportunities to improve financial processes and controls.

Profile

  • Minimum 2 years' experience in an accounting, finance, or bookkeeping role.

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance, or a related

discipline, or currently working towards completion.

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.

  • Advanced attention to detail with excellent analytical and problem-solving

skills.

  • Strong organisational and time management abilities with the capacity to

manage competing priorities.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial systems.

  • Experience with hotel accounting systems is highly regarded.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively

across departments.

  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and

professionalism.
